Financial Planning

Client Centered

A collaborative financial life planning process to help you build the wealth you need to live the way you want to.

One of the first questions people ask us is, "What is the purpose of a financial plan?" In our view, comprehensive financial planning isn't just about investing. It's a process designed to help you figure out how you can accumulate the wealth you need to live the way you want to--both today and in the future.

At Canby Financial, we believe that the purpose of financial planning is to help you anticipate and address your financial needs at every stage of your life, from the time you begin your career and start raising your family to the days leading into your retirement and beyond. Ideally, we will be there to provide guidance and support at every step of life's journey.

Financial planning through life stages

Our financial advisors truly want to work with people who can benefit from our comprehensive financial planning process. In our first meeting, we will learn about you and your family, your current financial situation, and the type of help you are seeking. By the end of this session we will both have a good sense of whether you will benefit from our total-life financial planning services and what the next steps will be should you decide to move forward with us. Before work begins, we will provide you with a concise statement of how much our fee will be for your financial plan.

Once you hire us, we'll work closely with you to understand where you are today--and where you want to be financially next year, ten years from now, thirty years down the road--or any time in between.

Through extensive interviews and an in-depth analysis of your income sources, everyday spending, outstanding debts, and investments as well as your retirement, higher education, charitable giving and legacy planning goals, we will build a comprehensive financial plan that incorporates your short- and long-term goals. This plan will help you:

  • Prepare for future expenses like your children's college tuition, a vacation home, and elder care.
  • Build a foundation to help you attain your retirement dreams.
  • Grow and use your wealth in a tax-efficient manner, now and in the future.
  • Share wealth values and your legacy with family members and favorite causes.

In addition to suggesting actions to help you address these objectives, your plan will also include a detailed investment strategy with separate target rates of return and recommended mixes of stocks, bonds, cash, and nontraditional investments for each of your retirement and taxable accounts.

Your financial plan should be a living document that evolves over time as your family’s vision for the future changes. You may wish to to manage your own investments. However, if you decide to hire Canby Financial as your investment adviser, we will manage any or all of your accounts using cost-efficient investments. You will receive monthly account statements and quarterly performance reports and we will meet with you at least once a year to review your financial plan and investment portfolio and, when needed, recommend adjustments to reflect your ever-changing financial life.
